Where getting it done right
Jefferson County Land Title has a contract with Jefferson County Commissioners to act as a back-up for the Jefferson County Recorder’s Office. In exchange for being allowed to scan the recorded documents on a daily basis, JCLT agrees to provide access to the residents and officials of Jefferson County if the Recorder’s Office is unable to access their own records. This actually happened in May, 2009, when a fire severely damaged the Jefferson County Courthouse and resulted in many of the Recorder’s records being transported offsite for several years to the office of a historical records rehabilitation expert. Although very few documents were actually destroyed, many of the repaired records have not been organized for easy research. County officials and other searchers still occasionally contact our office for help in obtaining records.
